A grand large eight day mahogany longcase clock. The case
has an old patina and in very good condition. The boxtop hood has double
fluted pillars, two of which are attached to the hood door.A pediment carving
rests on top with three brass urn finials. The hood is decorated with eglomise'
panels .
Eglomise' is glass with reverse painting on the back
in bluish black with gold powders. This feature is very typical of Manchester
clocks of this period in England.


The 14 inch white painted dial is signed by the maker
" Edward Shepley, MANCHESTER". The rolling moon phase ( lunar dial ) has
an original oil painting of the highest quality. The dial has outer minute
track and subsidiary seconds dial. An aperature below the center of dial
shows the date of the month.
World globes show the maps of the Western and Eastern
hemispheres . This dial is signed
'Walker & Hughes', an early dial maker.
The painted four corner spandrels are well executed ,
light and of the period.



The trunk of the case has flame mahogany in the long
door which is keyed. The maple inlay escutcheon matches the block
panelling and maple stringing throughout the entire case.
Plynth has canted corners and the elegant hepplewhite
style foot is splayed.

The eight day quality movement is cleaned and running
well. A cast bell strikes the coming hours.
A fine longcase clock for a grand entrance.
