FRENCH BRONZE HORSE CLOCK circa 1810

A very desirable french mantle clock with an unusual mysterious twist. The bronze horse is licking his hoof~  did he throw his rider ? The saddle never carried a rider, as there is no room for it, and the reins are complete and would be in the way of a rider.

A highly decorative Empire period clock with gilt cast brass imbelishments . The silvered dial with an elegant cast bezel has Bruguet style hands.

The circular brass eight day stamped movement was made by Honore' Pons, (Pons de Paul)
one of several entrepreneurs responsible for mechanizing the production of clock manufacture in France. Established in 1807, he ultimately perfected machinery that made it possible to deliver 100 finished movements a week to his customers in Paris.
The clock runs eight days and strikes the full and half hours on a brass bell. The circular brass movement has silk thread suspension.

Clock measurement:  11' x 4.25" x 16"
