PICARDY  FRENCH LONGCASE CLOCK --Circa- end of 18th Century

The Picardy clock is a relation to the Normandy clocks of France. It formed a part of the local furniture
design near the end of the eighteenth century. The case has straight sides. The dial is surrounded by a large                                  carved bouquet of flowers, with flowers and leaves cascading down each side of the dial.
Wheat ear carving surrounds the enamel dial.
The hood has geometric leaf design and carved molding beneath.
The long narrow quarter cut oak case is very classical style. Above the door is another basket of roses and in
the lower area of the door, a third elongated spray of flowers.

The white convex porcelain dial with an outer seconds ring, having fancy brass hands.
The glass is convex also.

The EIGHT DAY movement is brass with anchor escapement. It is three trains, with full hour and three                                         quarter striking on a nest of three bells. There are three old cast weights held by new chain.
This is a Normandy clock from St.Nicolas d` Aliermont,FRANCE.  They were often called " St. Nicolas " Clocks
