Origin: Paris, France
Pierre du Chesne was
recieved as master in the guild of the Faubourg St-Germain in
March 1675 and the city of Paris in June the same year.
He is known to have used cases by
Andre' Charles Boulle.

This elegant ebonized bracket clock
is overlayed with red tortoiseshell and silver contraband. An elaborate
apron at lower front of case dates the early period of this clock.
Two brass finials rest on the chimney blocks, aside
the majestic top arched decoration. Four fine gilt brass feet are all matching.The
front door has a keyed lock at the side. Arched side windows have tortoiseshell
banding.

The dial is covered in black velvet. A 7 inch silvered
chapter ring gives the hours, half hours, quarter hour plus a 60 second
track in numerals.
A gilt brass decorative plaque is mounted below the dial
-signed " Pierre Du Chesne a' Paris "
The pierced and engraved gilt hands are paisley.

The brass 5 pillar movement has crown wheel escapement
with cycloidal cheeks , well tapered arbors and gilt bob.
It is of 14 day endurance and strikes the hours on an
original extended bell ringer on top of case giving choice resonance.
This is an early fine striking religieuse Louis XIV clock.
