A French ormulu 19th century clock depicting Astronomy. The bronze statue " Urania " is one of the nine muses in Greek mythology .She is the patron of astronomy. Her attributes were the globe and compass. She was named Urania the 'Heavenly ', foretelling the future by the position of the stars.


The bronze clock has many decorative embellishments, including
urns, rosettes,torches,laurel wreaths,
and garlands.The white enamel dial has black roman numerals
and the hands are of the Breguet style.
The terrestrial globe rests on a pedestal which is knurled
top and bottom and beautifully patterned in the center.The chasing is perfect.

The original brass movement is of eight day duration and
silk thread suspension. The hour and half hour is struck on a brass silvered
bell. The pendulum bob is numbered 225, the same number is stamped on the
backplate of the movement.
The well turned and decorated foot adds greatly to this
superb case.
A wonderful mantle piece and a great investment.
